The Election

Many people know that this election, regardless of who won it, would be one to go down in history. However, because of Barack Obama winning this election the history made was a little more noticeable. In January Barack Obama will officially be sworn in as the 44th president and the first African American man to ever win the presidency. I think that his winning says a lot about how far America has come not only in the past few decades but also in the past few years and shows not only our country but the world as a whole how much we have grown.

Obama’s win is one of the most incredible things I think that I will ever see, and I am very aware of how lucky I am to be alive, and able to understand how momentous this actually is. To know the history that this country has gone through from having slavery, to black people not being able to vote, to their votes not even counting as a whole vote and then to see that an African American man can win over the country and be named the President is incredible. I’m even luckier because I, along with some of my other peers, will be in D.C. to watch him be inaugurated. I am just really excited that I was able to see this happen all the way through and that I will be able to look back and say that I was there when it all happened.
